(0:00) What is up, you gorgeous, fabulous creatures? Welcome to a brand new week of the Losing It
(0:05) podcast. You're here with Kylie Pax, your emotional... I was going to say Australia's (0:08) emotional eating coach. I am your favourite emotional eating coach, girl. That is who I am.
(0:13) And I'm really, really pumped and excited for today's episode because I am talking about (0:17) something that I've never talked about before. I don't know how the idea even dropped into my (0:21) little noggin, but it did this morning. And this one is going to really blow your mind because (0:25) the whole reason we are here is to stop emotional eating and lose weight. It's two (0:31) basic steps. Why is it so hard for us to stop emotional eating and lose weight? In fact, (0:37) all we need to do is stop the emotional eating.
Then the weight loss would be the natural byproduct (0:41) of that. But if we can't do number one, if we can't take that first step, we certainly can't (0:45) take the second one. So this week, I'm going to share with you how I lost, get ready, four and a (0:50) half kilos in the last two weeks and how Madonna helped me do it.I know you're like, what? Yes, (0:59) it is true. Weight loss isn't about willpower. It's about identity. This has always been what (1:03) I'm saying. So my question to you is, who do you believe that you are?
Because if you're currently (1:09) believing that you're someone who is always going to struggle with their weight, well, you know, (1:13) my mom used to tell me we're just big bone like Aunty Sarah-Joan or something. Then yeah, (1:19) you're going to have a hard time reconceptualizing that in your mind. And you will also, (1:24) or also you will also, but you will always have that self-talk going off. Well, you know, (1:30) I can just start again tomorrow.
I can't resist.I can't resist those cookies. I can't keep food (1:35) in the house. I got the stories that we tell ourselves over and over.Meanwhile, we heard (1:40) them from our mothers who heard them from their mothers. So this is not like your fault, but it (1:45) is your fault if you continue to play them in your head over and over and over. So I'm going (1:50) to tell you today how Madonna helped me stop doing that and lose four and a half kilos in the last (1:56) two weeks. So can we just convert that? I always do this.
Let me convert. (2:01) Is, I need to get a grip on the pounds situation.4.5 times 2.2. Is that right? (2:08) 9.9 pounds, bitches. Your girl lost 10 pounds. It's fair.Oh, listen. When you're losing weight, (2:17) converting it to pounds sounds so much better. Okay. Can we start again? (2:21) Welcome to the losing a podcast where this bitch has lost 10 pounds in the last two weeks (2:26) and Madonna helped me do it. Let's start by setting the scene. Okay.Let's set the scene. (2:30) If you're an eighties baby, like me, if you're not, you're probably thinking, (2:33) why is she talking about Madonna?
Honey, let me help you understand. I'm an eighties child.(2:39) I'm proud to be an eighties child. The eighties were fucking iconic. You can't beat them.(2:43) That hair, that crazy makeup, the fluorescent fashion. There's nothing better. There's (2:49) nothing better. But when we talk about Madonna, who, what did become her iconic self in the eighties, (2:55) there's so many unknown facts. Now, for those of you who are maybe not of fame with Madonna's (3:00) real background story, I can tell you, I was. It's imprinted into my brain because my brother, (3:05) being gay, was, well, I would say raised on Madonna. He raised us on Madonna. Okay. So, (3:12) he never actually came out right and told the family that he was, he was gay, but he never (3:18) really needed to.The writing was on the wall, honey. He listened to Boy George and Culture (3:21) Club, Madonna, Babs, what else? I mean, do we really need to hear any more?
That pretty much (3:28) paints a very clear picture. So, Madonna's background, if you're not familiar, she wasn't (3:35) born a star. She wasn't born into some rich family, nor, more importantly, was she discovered, (3:42) quote unquote discovered. Nobody just found her sitting in a movie theater and said, oh my God, (3:47) you're amazing. Let me make you a star. No, she turned herself into the icon that she is now, (3:54) but it started by her deciding that that is what she wanted. So, when she was just, I think, (4:01) 19 years old, she moved to New York and she had nothing. She had a few bucks in a duffel bag and (4:07) she decided that she wanted to be a star. And so, she went about taking the appropriate actions. (4:12) She did the acting classes, the singing classes, the singing classes, the dancing class. She did (4:18) all of it.
And she hustled her ass off, waitressing, to pay for that shit. And so, (4:25) when she released her first single, which was called Everybody, again, if you're a Madonna fan, (4:30) you will know this song. It didn't really do much on the charts. It was not, it wasn't an (4:35) overnight hit. I don't even really think it was a hit itself. But she hustled it in the clubs.(4:40) She got out there and got the people and the DJs to play her music so that people could start (4:46) learning about her and who she was. She was acting like she was big before she even was. (4:53) So, all of that happened before she finally dropped her.She got signed up and then dropped (4:57) her Like A Virgin album. Version? What is wrong with me today? Like A Virgin, and that is what (5:03) blew up her career.
But she didn't sit there. She didn't just stop there and say, well, now I'm a (5:09) star. Look at me. Here I am.No, she kept evolving. So, she is really the queen of reinvention. She (5:15) was constantly updating her image, her sound, her identity, all of it.She went to do Material (5:20) Girl, Like A Prayer, Vogue, all of those. She had completely different looks, different vibes, (5:26) different sounds, all of it. So, she wasn't, like I said, she wasn't discovered.None of this was (5:32) made easy for her. It didn't just happen and drop out of the sky. She declared herself to be who she (5:39) wanted to be.And then she became who she wanted to be by taking the actions even before it was (5:45) real in her reality. She didn't wait for someone to make her famous. She acted like the person (5:51) she wanted to become and the world, the rest of us, we caught up.That right there is a classic (5:59) display of identity-based action and the power of that action.
That is where results come from. (6:08) They don't come from rarely. Results really don't come from someone winning the lottery and now (6:13) their life is, you know, just so incredible. That is so few and far between. Most people who get (6:19) iconic results in life are people like Madonna. And they got out there, they decided who they (6:24) wanted to be and they took the shitty, unsexy actions in the darkness where nobody could see (6:32) and nobody was cheering her on and nobody was telling her that this was even going to work out (6:36) in the end. But she kept going no matter what. Now, why am I telling you this? Because this is (6:43) exactly the same method I used to lose four and a half kilos or as I am now going to be shouting (6:49) to the world, 10 pounds in two weeks. Two weeks ago, I stopped trying to lose weight and I started (6:56) being the woman who already has lost the weight.
What does that look like? I had to make some key (7:03) identity shifts in how I saw myself before I was going to be able to carry this off. (7:08) So I focused really heavily on my five eating codes. You know what these are. If you haven't (7:13) got my free course yet, my free course, if you haven't got my five eating codes, which are in my (7:18) free course, then you can get that by hitting the link in the show notes or head on over to (7:22) KyliePax.com forward slash free course. So I started doing things like only eating when I (7:26) was hungry and I made sure I always stopped eating at 80% full. And I did it by asking myself, what (7:32) would the fit, healthy version of me be doing at 4 p.m. when I really want snackies? I'd be asking (7:38) myself, well, first of all, am I even hungry? And second of all, if I am, what would be a really (7:43) great choice for me right now? Do I want a pizza? Am I going to feel really good about that after (7:48) I've eaten it? A lot of you are not using forward thinking. You're only using now thinking. You're (7:54) using, well, this will make me happy right now thinking.
And that usually, anything that's (7:59) going to make you happy right now usually has a payoff of making you unhappy later. I don't know (8:05) why it works out that way, but it usually does. So I focus really heavily on always asking myself, (8:11) using future thinking and asking myself, I can have anything that I want to eat now.I could (8:15) have donuts, pizza. I could have a whole bag of chips. I can have hot chips, which are just like (8:19) my kryptonite. But will I feel good about this after the eating is done? That was the first (8:25) thing that I did. The second thing that I did is I started planning my meals like a star plans her (8:31) tour. I started planning my meals like Madonna plans her tour.Madonna doesn't wing it. She (8:36) doesn't just see where the wind takes her on the day. I wonder what I'll feel like eating tonight (8:41) at six o'clock. You know what you're going to feel like eating tonight at six o'clock. You're going (8:44) to feel like getting Uber Eats because you're tired and exhausted.
You already know that now.(8:48) So in the same way that Madonna doesn't just see where it fancies her to go on her world tours, (8:55) neither did I. I planned my meals like someone who takes herself seriously. I used the bombshell (9:02) planner and journal that you can also get inside of my bombshell blueprint. Again, the link is in (9:06) the show notes or head on over to KyliePax.com forward slash blueprint. And then I made sure (9:12) that I stuck to my plan by using what I now like to call just my morning routine ritual. (9:19) I created a morning routine ritual which had visualization in it. I made sure I always drink (9:24) my lemon water.I do movement every day, but I do these things in a way that would align with my (9:31) future self, the version of me that's lost her 10 kilos totally or whatever it is that I'm going (9:36) to end up losing. That version of me, what would she be doing? How would she be conducting her (9:41) mornings? Would she be hitting snooze on the alarm? I'm thinking on the routine.
Would she be (9:47) hitting snooze on the alarm? No, she wouldn't.She wouldn't. She would be getting her ass up out (9:52) of bed because she knows she's got things to do, places to go, people to see and to be iconic. (9:57) That's what she has to do.The fourth thing that I did is I acted like a confident bombshell even (10:02) before I felt like it. That is the fourth thing that I really did these last two weeks to make (10:08) sure that I lost those 10 pounds or four and a half kilos. Listen, I'm going to say to you this (10:13) version of you, this confident, slim, healthy, tone, vibrant, beautiful, iconic version of you, (10:20) she's already in the room. You just are not showing up as her right now. (10:26) So what happened when I flipped that switch is I lost four and a half kilos. I've increased my (10:31) energy.I have way more control over my food choices, especially at night. I'm sleeping better (10:37) and all of this came not from deprivation, but from aligning myself with who I always knew I (10:46) could be. I just didn't really believe that it was possible.Listen, I'm sure Madonna had her (10:53) moments of doubt too, but she never stopped. She never gave up. So you can do all of this as well.(10:59) The first thing you need to do is decide who it is that you want to be. You write her down. (11:03) What does she look like?
How does she eat? How does she stand? What kind of clothes does she wear? (11:07) What time does she get up? What time does she go to bed? What kind of food choices is she making? (11:11) Is she following my five eating codes or is she just going, oh, fuck it, I'm sure I'll make a (11:15) good choice? Because you know how well that's worked out in the past. The second thing you're (11:19) going to do is you're going to start acting like that version of you now. Like I said, what does (11:25) she eat? And when she does eat, how much of that does she eat? When does she get movement into her (11:30) day? What is she saying yes to? What is she saying no to? What are her boundaries look like? (11:35) Because then the third thing you're going to do is you're going to take every freaking opportunity (11:39) that comes along to prove that you are that person. Madonna didn't just wait for opportunities (11:46) to fall on her.She started before she even dropped a single. She started by being the drummer.
A lot (11:53) of you may not even know that she was a drummer in a band called The Breakfast Club. And I mean, (11:58) I've listened to their music. It wasn't great. It wasn't great. Is Madonna a great drummer? (12:03) Probably not. But she saw an opportunity and she ran for it. That is what you have to do as well.(12:09) What would an opportunity look like for you? Probably not auditioning for a band. But for you, (12:13) it would look like an opportunity to prove that you are who you say you are would look like (12:20) some snackies are on offer at night and you already decided that morning that you were going to stick (12:24) to your plan. You weren't going to deviate from it.Well, here's an opportunity for you to tell (12:28) the world that you are who you say you are. Or you're just going to sit by still bullshitting (12:33) all of us and yourself and telling on one hand that, yeah, this is who I am and this is what (12:37) I'm going to do. But secretly on the down low, you don't ever fucking do it.Every decision you make (12:42) is an opportunity for you to step further into that identity and solidify it in your mind. (12:49) Because the fourth step is to reinvent yourself over and over again.
If it's not working, (12:56) just like Madonna did, change it, adjust it, tweak it, pivot. When you start thinking a little more (13:04) like Madonna and understand weight loss isn't going to drop on your head. That is just not (13:09) how it works. You can't sit around waiting to be discovered by the weight loss fairy.(13:13) You need to declare that you are a woman who is in full control of her eating. You don't have (13:19) issues with emotional eating. You have full control and autonomy over the choices that you (13:24) make. And then you become her, just like Madonna did, just like I did. So honeys, if you found (13:30) this helpful, useful or even mildly entertaining, please go ahead, like, love and share with the (13:34) bestie because when we share, that is how we're going to change the lives of women around the (13:39) globe. And one by one, we're going to become more and more fabulous each and every time.
(13:43) And of course, if you're sharing this on social, please go ahead and tag me so that I can share (13:47) you back. For those of you who want me all up in your grill all day, every day, and you are ready (13:51) to step into your iconic era and declare that this is your time.
