GLP-1 stopped working? Or is your body trying to tell you something deeper?
In this episode, Kylie unpacks the REAL reason so many women hit a weight loss plateau while taking Ozempic, Mounjaro, Semaglutide or Tirzepatide… and why the answer is NOT always “eat less” or “increase your dose.”
You’ll learn:
• Why GLP-1 plateaus happen
• The hidden danger of losing muscle while dieting
• How chronic stress and cortisol can stall fat loss
• Why blood sugar regulation matters more than calories alone
• The truth about “metabolic damage”
• How under-eating protein can slow your progress
• Why your nervous system affects the scale more than you think
• The biggest mistakes women make when their appetite drops
• How to support your metabolism WITHOUT spiralling
This episode is a must-listen for women over 40 who feel frustrated, stuck, inflamed, exhausted, or scared that their body has “stopped responding.”
Because your body isn’t broken, babe.
It’s adapting.
And once you understand what’s really happening beneath the surface… everything changes.

Okay, come on in, honey, because it is time for a little real talk today. If you are on Ozempic, Monjaro, any kind of Semaglutide, Truzepatide, whatever peptide is currently living in your fridge, and you're noticing that your weight loss is starting to slow down a little, this episode might explain exactly what's going on. Now, before you go racing off to your GP and shelling out a whole bunch more money and upping your dosage, let me make this perfectly clear.
A plateau does not automatically mean that your medication has stopped working, and it definitely doesn't mean that your body is broken or that you're doing something wrong. But a lot of us do panic when we start seeing the scale slow down. So then, of course, what do we do? We start slashing calories even harder.
We're doing this crazy 15, 20, 30,000 steps. We think we need higher doses, and we are assuming that we have failed again. Yet another weight loss plan.
But meanwhile, the whole time, the real problem is usually happening underneath the surface, quietly, like a villain. It's skulking around in the background. So that is why today we're going to be talking about GLP-1 plateaus, why they happen, what's actually happening to slow down your progress, the hidden role that stress, muscle loss, and blood sugar are playing, plus why some of you are unknowingly turning your metabolism into a crime scene while you're trying to lose weight.
So let's get started. Today's conversation is way bigger than just injections. It's about metabolic health.
It's about how our modern lifestyle has wrecked our hunger cues, our stress systems, and our energy regulation. And I'm just going to put it out there. What you're about to hear today could completely change the way you look at weight loss forever.
So sis, grab your coffee, get your protein shake, get that pretty looking emotional support standing cup you're running around the place with, and let's get into it. Now, a couple of weeks ago, we touched on GLP-1s, and we had such a phenomenal response to that episode that there was a lot of requests for more information, please. I thought, okay, sis, you know your girl's got you covered.
Now, I want to tell you straight up, GLP-1s are not magic. We know that by now. But also, I want to really reaffirm that they're not cheating.
I need to say this first because there is still too much noise on the internet that's become an absolute circus around GLP-1s. A lot of people are acting like they're either a miracle, or other people are all up in your face acting like you've committed some kind of federal crime against the weight loss community if you use them. Personally, I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
GLP-1 medications were originally created for diabetes support. We all know that by now. They help regulate blood sugar, insulin, appetite, your cravings, and metabolic flexibility.
We know that. But it's the last point that matters because a lot of people are right now metabolically inflexible. What does that mean? It means that their body has literally forgotten how to switch between burning glucose and burning fat for fuel.
We all know what it's like in our busy days. We're snacking constantly, or we're stressing constantly, or we're sleeping really, really, really badly. And while all of this is going on, we're feeding our bodies these ultra processed foods and staring at LED lights at 11pm wondering why we're exhausted and inflamed.
So yes, for some of us, GLP-1s can genuinely help reduce the food noise and stabilize blood sugar. But for others, they have a tendency to fall into the trap of less appetite must equal automatic success. I will be the first to raise my hand and say absolutely not true.
That is a false ass narrative and it needs to be stricken from the record. As you know, I tried a GLP-1 for 30 days because I wanted to know what the experience was all about. I did have some weight to lose at the time, otherwise the doctor wouldn't have prescribed it to me.
But I did a whole episode on it a couple of weeks ago. So if you want to know more, just scroll on back. Because one of the main points that we discussed was that if you are not supporting your body properly while you're using them, you are actually going to create a whole different problem.
So let's talk about the real reason why we plateau during our weight loss journey. Because this is the one thing that sends us into emotional chaos when the scale stops moving. Now, first of all, a plateau is normal, people.
It's normal. Your body is adapting. It's supposed to adapt.
That's biology. There's actually a term for it. It is called adaptive thermogenesis, which basically means as you lose weight, your body becomes more efficient.
Efficient at what? Efficient at freaking everything. It requires less energy. Your metabolism will slightly slow down and your body starts conserving more energy.
From a survival perspective, that is fan-freaking-tastic news. But from a weight loss perspective, no girl, that's your worst fucking nightmare come true. Why am I still stuck at the same damn number? That is what does our head in every time.
It's infuriating. Of course, I get it. But the mistake that women make is assuming that more restriction must be the answer.
Sometimes the plateau is happening because your cortisol is too high, because you're stressing about stupid things that you cannot control. Your muscle mass is therefore dropping. Your sleep is complete crap.
I mean, I will be the first to raise a hand. My sleep is absolute garbage. Or maybe you're not eating enough protein or too much sugar.
Or it can even be falling into some of the woo-woo categories like your body doesn't feel safe. These are the missing components of the conversation. And this part matters a lot.
Because one of the factors that I've touched on quite heavily in the previous episode on GLP-1s is the very real risk of muscle loss while you're taking these medications. It's one of the biggest mistakes that women fall into. One of the biggest traps when they're taking these GLP-1s is accidentally, on purpose, under-eating.
Because you're under-eating in general, you barely feel hungry. So you think that you can survive on like three almonds and some good vibes. But then six months later, you're wondering why you feel so weak and tired.
You have no energy. Or your metabolism has fallen into a coma. Worst of all, you end up looking skinny fat.
And then we realize the fat loss has stalled. Now, this is not a GLP-1 myth. This is not something that is a kind of maybe sorta it could happen.
No. Studies are showing that a significant portion of your weight loss on GLP-1s is coming from your lean ass muscle mass. Not your lean ass.
No. It's coming from your muscle mass if you are not actively doing something to protect it from being cannibalized. The more of your muscle you are able to preserve, the stronger your metabolism will be in the long term, the better your insulin sensitivity will remain, and the better your long-term results will be.
So if you're using any kind of GLP-1 and you are not prioritizing protein, resistance training, strength work, you are just playing some whack-ass game of Jenga with your future weight loss and weight gain. And I'm telling you now, I would not be signing up for that shit. Just because your body during this time is wanting less food doesn't mean it needs less water, less nutrients.
Those things still remain the same. So let's talk a little about the queen of weight loss. She is the one that we most underestimate and she's literally the most terrifying because it's our blood sugar and she affects everything.
I'm talking energy, craving, whether or not your body is going to decide to burn fat because your hormones are switched on or off, inflammation, huge. And even on GLP-1s, blood sugar still matters. So if your blood sugar is constantly spiking during the day because you find yourself grazing nonstop, maybe you can't eat the big meals that you used to eat, so now you're just snacking your way skinny.
Or maybe you're drinking sugary coffees, thinking that this doesn't really matter, or stress eating. If you are living on processed snack food, your body is going to stay in fat storage mode. And why is that? Because your insulin will remain constantly elevated, which is going to slow down the fat burning.
Sister, it's the whole point of why we are taking these drugs to start with. This is why consistently snacking can become a huge ass problem. Your body literally never gets a break.
You're basically making your digestive system do overtime shifts all day long. Now before somebody panics and says, Mom, what are you talking about? I can never have snacks again. No, no, no, of course not.
Me, I'm a snackaholic. I love my snack. That's not what I'm saying at all.
What I am saying is treating your kitchen like some 24-hour snack drive-thru is not the vibe here. Create an actual meal structure, feel good about it, and then stick with it. Your body needs the same amount of rhythm and regularity and routine as it did before you took the GLP-1s.
Nothing has changed in that department. Now aside from the physical elements that we've already discussed, let's talk a little bit about stress, because she's the one that can store your weight loss harder than food sometimes. And I'm telling you, I know this from personal experience.
I've had this with clients as well who have stressed about personal situations. Their cortisol remains so high that they can do as much exercise or lower their calories as much as they want to do it. They are not losing one gram of weight, mainly because their body is so inflamed and freaked out that there is just no way it's going to release any excess fat.
I know for myself, there have been many times in my life where I was eating well. I felt like I was doing all the right things. I was exercising, but my nervous system was in absolute chaos.
I remember during the time when I got divorced, I was stressed. I was freaking out. I still did all the right things, like your girl was getting up early.
I was walking on the treadmill. I wasn't running. I wasn't stressing myself out.
I was just doing the walk. I was doing a slow incline. I was eating all the organic food.
I made sure I didn't put anything in my body that had preservatives. I was a fanatic about that damn stuff, but my body wouldn't lose weight. If you are feeling chronically stressed, you will often find your body is retaining water, increasing inflammation, slowing down its fat loss, disrupting your sleep, and your cravings start skyrocketing.
Girl, your body doesn't care about the gold genes that you want to fit into. It could not give a crap. It doesn't care.
If it thinks that you're in some kind of imminent danger, it's going to respond that way, and as women this era, we are living in chronic survival mode, always. I don't know any woman that when you go, hey, how are you? Her response is not busy. I'm busy.
I'm just so busy. I used to say that to people all the time, and I wore it like a badge of honor. Your girl was rushing from one place to the next, and I was just freaking out.
I could barely breathe. I was just holding my stomach all day long, taking short, shallow breaths because I was so stressed, and I know I'm not the only one. Rushing, caregiving, always overstimulated, always on.
Then we wonder why our body won't relax and lose some weight because your nervous system is freaking out big time. Sometimes fat loss is not about the drugs, the calories, the macros, the workouts. It's got nothing to do with that.
Sometimes it's about your sleep or whether you're getting in a gentle walk during the day, whether you're slowing down enough to regulate your metabolism and breathing. Stop white-knuckling your way through everything you have to do in life. Your cortisol levels matter.
Now, I'm going to go there. We're going to touch on the woo-woo side of things a little bit because, yes, your body is listening to you. Whether you've seen those studies or not with the people that wrote certain words on a glass of water or spoke particular words to plants, and based on whether they spoke loving words or wrote loving words or hate words of hate, then the plants and the water became murky or the plants died.
We've all seen these. This is why it's important because a lot of us talk to ourselves like we are sad sacks of shit. My body is disgusting.
My metabolism is wrecked. I always fail. I never win at anything.
I don't think this will work for me. My body's broken. Imagine hearing that sort of crap every single day.
Since your body is not the enemy, your body is adapting to the changes that you are demanding of it at this stage of your life. It's responding. It's protecting.
It's trying to survive, and honestly, some of us do not even need a stricter diet. What you need is better recovery, better sleep, more muscle, get your booty to the gym, less stress, more nourishment, and put some frigging effort into having a healthier relationship with yourself because you cannot hate your way to happiness. You bashing yourself every time you walk past a mirror is just creating another cycle of punishment that you're going to have to overcome later.
So if you're currently on a GLP-1 right now and the scale has slowed down for you, please do not immediately assume that it stopped working. Audit your life first. Ask yourself, am I eating enough protein? Am I preserving my muscle? Am I getting enough sleep? What is my stress level like? Am I actually nourishing my body or am I just reducing calories? Because your is not stupid and it's not broken.
What it is, is responding to the environment that you are creating. And that is actually the most empowering part of this message today because it means if you created it, then you can also change it.
